Wallet Security Q&A

Important information about your wallet security

Q: What happens if someone gets my 12-word mnemonic?

A: They cannot access your wallet without your PIN. When you import a wallet, the system checks if a PIN is already registered for that wallet address. If yes, the correct PIN must be entered. Without it, access is denied. After 5 failed attempts, the wallet is locked for 15 minutes.

Q: What happens if someone gets my email?

A: Your email alone cannot recover your wallet. Email recovery requires both your email AND your original PIN. Without the PIN you set when creating the wallet, recovery is impossible.

Q: What if I lose my PIN?

A: Unfortunately, your wallet will be permanently inaccessible. No one — not even Verdis Chain staff — can recover it. This is by design: your PIN is the ultimate key to your wallet. Write it down in a secure offline location.

Q: Can Verdis Chain staff access my wallet?

A: No. Your wallet is non-custodial. Your mnemonic, PIN, and private keys never leave your device. Verdis Chain staff will never ask for your PIN or mnemonic.

Q: What cryptography does the wallet use?

A: Verdis Wallet uses SR25519 cryptography (Substrate/Polkadot standard) with SS58 format 909. Your 12-word mnemonic generates an sr25519 keypair. The same mnemonic produces the same address on both the web wallet and Android app.

Q: How does the PIN protect my wallet?

A: Your PIN is registered on the Verdis Chain when you first create or import your wallet. On subsequent imports (even from a different browser or device), the system verifies the PIN against the registered record. A different PIN will be rejected. This means even with your 12 words, no one can access your wallet without your original PIN.

Q: What should I do to keep my wallet safe?

A: (1) Write down your 12-word mnemonic and PIN on paper, stored offline. (2) Never share your mnemonic or PIN with anyone. (3) Use a strong PIN (6 digits recommended). (4) Enable email recovery as a backup. (5) Verify you are on verdischain.com before entering your mnemonic.
